In 2014, at the age of 21, a friend's inspiration led me to acquire my first digital camera. The thrill of receiving that package in the mail and unveiling my inaugural "real" camera marked the beginning of a transformative journey into the captivating world of photography. The storytelling prowess of this art form quickly became my newfound obsession, altering the course of my life in unforeseen ways. Little did I anticipate the doors that would swing open, the people I would encounter, and the places I would explore—all because of my passion for photography.
Photography became the focal point of my twenties, commencing with the customary documentation of weddings. These events served as my training ground, teaching me the significance of quick thinking and perpetual readiness for capturing fleeting moments. In the realm of weddings, there are no second chances; every shot must be meticulously timed. This experience instilled in me the value of preparedness, ensuring that I could seize the perfect shot in any given situation.
My fascination with photographing people, particularly portraits, blossomed from these early experiences. I became captivated by the challenge of uncovering the authentic personality of my subjects and portraying it in a compelling and intriguing manner through my photographs. Portrait photography honed my ability to delve deeper into the purpose behind each photo, searching for the true meaning and essence behind the lens.
Transitioning seamlessly from portraits, I applied my acquired skills to assist businesses with their product photography. The transition from capturing human expressions to showcasing products and services for brands, authors, and chefs felt like a natural progression, demonstrating the versatility of my craft in diverse professional settings.
In 2019, a serendipitous encounter with a creative director marked a turning point in my career. Recognizing my work, they offered invaluable assistance that eventually led to a remarkable opportunity—an audition to become Brad Paisley's personal tour photographer. The whirlwind journey began with a sudden invitation to join a group of strangers on a tour bus bound for Houston, Texas, to capture Brad's performance at the Houston Rodeo concert. Subsequently, I became an integral part of the team, traveling across the United States and nine countries in eight months. This adventure was a kaleidoscope of travel, excitement, and the continuous quest to encapsulate the unique essence of each show.
Upon the gradual reopening of businesses, I recognized the potential of photography to enhance brand communication in physical spaces. Inspired by the lack of representation and originality in business environments, I proposed a unique concept to a prominent community bank with over 30 locations. The initiative involved revamping their artwork with custom photography, effectively integrating their brand culture into the visual landscape. This endeavor marked the birth of what I term 'interior enhancement photography.
This period of self-discovery underscored the realization that photography transcends mere image capture; it is a medium for conveying ideas, capturing moments, and forging connections with the essence of the subject or idea on the other side of the lens. My journey in this dynamic field continues, marked by a commitment to pushing boundaries and redefining the role of photography in shaping narratives and elevating professional environments.
